It’s official! Michelle Yeoh will finally have her own Star Trek series and it’ll focus more on her character, Captain Phillipa Georgiou.
No, it won’t be the same Georgiou we were introduced in the first two episodes of Star Trek: Discovery. Rather, it will be Georgiou from the Mirror Universe.
In other words, Yeoh’s character, who is the former Emperor of the sinister Terran Empire will finally have a back story.
Section 31 is a shadowy black-ops group which was introduced in Deep Space Nine. These bad guys – who’re also a secret branch of Starfleet – are on a mission to ensure the Federation’s agenda is met.
Fans were first introduced to this organization and Georgiou’s involvement in a teased deleted Discovery scene at the WonderCon last year.
With season two of Discovery set to begin on January 17, this organization will play a crucial role in the progress of the plot based on some of the revealed posters.
“I’m so excited to continue telling these rich ‘Star Trek’ stories. Being a part of this universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes – certainly I believe it will go ‘where no WOMAN has ever gone before!’” Yeoh says in a statement.
While Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt will return to write the spin-off series, CBS All Access, however, is keeping mum on the title and release date.
