The Summer Vacation Packing List
I was inspired to write about this topic after I realized I have less than three weeks to shop for my much deserved week long summer vacation to the sunny Florida Keys. Now, even though the Keys are pretty laid back I will still pack casual and dressy items because I like to be prepared and have options. Be sure to mix it up – don’t stick with one summer trend all vacation! Here is my packing list for the summer which I hope will guide you in any summer getaway you may take – whether you end up at a tropical beach resort or many backyard pool parties.
Black and White – I love this trend because it is classic and so versatile. Wear a black and white bikini with some black wide leg pants, gold accessories, great sunglasses and a wide brimmed hat and you have one classy result.
Not so black and white = COLOR and lots of it! I’m loving the all the neon, corals and pastels seen on the runways and on the racks.
When going for a bright color, be sure not to overdo it. Try bright shorts with a more muted graphic top, but add in a few other pops of color in the accessories.
Coral looks good on almost everyone and is feminine with a little punch. Try some coral accessories or a flowy maxi dress.
While pastels were a hit this spring, they will still be right on trend for the summer and will look great with your new tan. This Jamie and the Jones top has that mint pastel throughout its pattern, which is the hot new summer color.
Sporty Chic - I know we’ve all been working out in the gym to get swimsuit ready (or trying at least!), but please leave your favorite worn workout tank at home. Think gym wear but glammed up a bit. Black with pops of color, mesh, track suits and surfer worthy gear. I would use this look for excursions during the day or a more casual night near the beach.
Nautical – Growing up in New England, I still have a little place in my heart for this preppy trend. Stripes and navy give a casual, yet classy and elegant feel. Pair a striped bathing suit or cover up with neutral wedges or flats or red accessories to complete a more patriotic look.
Tribal & Bold Prints – I love these bold prints because they make me feel like I am getting ready for a trip to somewhere exotic, no matter where I am going. Mix different prints and colors and add some fun chunky jewelry to complete the look.
All purpose tote and wide brimmed hat more neutral in color so they match with many different outfits
Your favorite sunglasses
A neutral pair of wedges and flats
Fun, colorful statement peices of jewelry that can help finish off any simple white tank and shorts
I hope this post inspires some of you to finally do some last minute vaca shopping or at least gives you some ideas. Here’s to a fabulous summer – BON VOYAGE! XO, Janal Leigh
